WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND COUNSELING?

Both coaching and counseling have client growth as their end goals, but coaches and counselors work toward this goal differently. Coaching begins where the client is at currently and looks ahead, supporting the client as they work towards their goals, while overcoming obstacles and limiting mindsets along the way. Counseling looks to the past and often seeks a diagnosis to help their client deal with life’s difficulties, in order to help them heal, recover, and move forward in health.

IS COACHING A GOOD FIT FOR ME RIGHT NOW?

Coaching is for people who are ready to take action to change aspects of their lives that they are dissatisfied with. Typically, people begin coaching because they have a place in their lives that they feel “stuck” and need a boost to get “unstuck.”

People often have a goal or two that they want to work towards, but it isn’t necessary to have to begin coaching. The most important part is that a client is ready to take action and not simply talk about what they would like to change.

If you have unresolved trauma or untreated mental illness in your life, it is better to start with counseling before going to a coach. If you are seeing a counselor, coaching could be a helpful, complimentary support. Talk to your counselor to see if he or she believes coaching would benefit you at this time.

HOW MUCH DOES COACHING COST?

WHAT DOES COACHING WITH A FOCUS ON SOUL AND SPIRIT MEAN?

This type of coaching primarily focuses on the wellbeing of your spiritual life. I partner with women who are ready to do deep work within themselves and with God, in order to experience a radical outward transformation in their relationships with God, themselves and others.

This inner work often looks like self-discovery–uncovering the uncomfortable for the sake of growth. Working towards goals in varying parts of your life is a natural extension of self-discovery. These goals could include: adjusting your emotions, thoughts and expectations, growing in your relationships with God, others and yourself; and even evaluating your mindsets and identity.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A COACHING SESSION?

My coaching sessions happen over an online platform, such as zoom, and last approximately 60 minutes. Throughout the conversation, I ask intentional questions to help my clients communicate what they want to work on, help them consider their needs within this context from varying perspectives, and support them while they form an action plan to meet their goals.

I believe my clients are creative and resourceful, and most importantly, I believe my clients are able to hear what the Holy Spirit wants to speak to them in regards to their area of concern. My role as a coach is to create a space for Spirit-led wisdom to rise to the surface throughout our conversations.

WHAT ARE YOUR COACHING CREDENTIALS?

I hold an Advanced Certificate in Transformational Coaching (ACTC) from Western Seminary, and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential through the International Coach Federation. I have also been pursuing coach training over and above what is required, in order to sharpen my knowledge and skills. I have been coaching since the fall of 2020.

WHAT IS THE ENNEAGRAM?

The enneagram is a complex personality typing system. It is a lens through which you see the “why” behind the things you do. It helps you to recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, when used as a discipleship tool, it helps you grow into the likeness of Christ, letting go of unhelpful personality traits along the way.

But keep in mind that the enneagram is only a tool. I like to think of it as descriptive, not prescriptive. When we place our personality in God’s hands, the tool of the enneagram can help illuminate the parts of our personalities that are in great need of being transformed by God’s hand.

By God’s guidance, the enneagram helps us take every personality trait captive and make it obedient to Christ Jesus. But we resist letting the enneagram become our identity because our identity is found in Christ alone. We are who God says we are–daughters of the Most High.
